MD Invitational Show Report

Florida native sweeps Maryland Brown Swiss show

by Andrea Haines

FREDERICK, Md. – The Maryland State Brown Swiss Invitational was held on Saturday, July 14th at the Frederick Fairgrounds with Judge Dennis Patrick of Woodbine, Md., overseeing the record-breaking 87 head of cattle from six states. The Premier Exhibitor honor was awarded to Lindsey Rucks of Okeechobee, Fla., and the Premier Breeder honor was given to the Burall Family, Burlin Farm of New Windsor, Md.

Lindsey Rucks of RAD-ical Genetics exhibited the grand champion female, Peach Kist Total Tango ET, a “tremendous uddered” 4-year-old sired by Tango, as explained by Judge Patrick. The reserve grand champion honor was awarded to Holly Johnson of Cochranton, Pa., with her 5-year-old cow, Way-Lyn Braiden Pretty. “This pair really shows the consistency in quality among the animals in this show,” shared Judge Patrick.

In the Junior division, Top Acres Garbro Winner, was named grand champion. The aged cow was exhibited by Jonathan Hubbard of Thurmont, Md. Following her, Hilltop Acres Richard Dina, a 3-year-old exhibited by Skylar Reichard of Chambersburg, Pa., won the reserve grand champion title.

The junior champion award also went to Lindsey Rucks for exhibiting her fall yearling, Radical Carrier Peep Show. Dale and Deanna Bendig and Antonio Moreno or Gettysburg, Pa., won the reserve junior champion award with their winter calf, B-M Goliath Getty.

A spring yearling, CIE Haley Carter Shiloh, exhibited by Hayley Wilson of Parkton, Md., was named junior champion of the Junior show. Reserve junior champion honors went to a fall calf, Dublin-Hills Phoenix, exhibited by Katelyn Bell of Frederick, Md.

Josh Sanders of Littlestown, Pa., judged the showmanship competition on Friday evening, July 13th at the same location. The overall-winner trophy went to the senior showman, Michaela Bell of Frederick, Md. “Showmanship is very subjective,” shared Judge Sanders in his reasons. “All of the exhibitors did an outstanding job.”
