Member Letter from the Board of Directors
December 4, 2017
Dear Fellow Brown Swiss Breeders,
The Brown Swiss Cattle Breeders Board of Directors met for their Winter Board Meeting in Beloit, Wisconsin, on November 30 and December 1, 2017. We discussed many important and difficult issues.
The board decided not to revisit the vote taken after the 2017 Annual Meeting to not renew the contract of Dave Wallace as Executive Secretary. It is important to note that the vote in July to not renew Mr. Wallace’s contract was seven yes, one abstention, with one member absent. We appreciate the support that we received from many breeders and acknowledge the concerns from members, as well. Dave Wallace managed the finances of the Brown Swiss Association in an effective manner. He possesses the ability to assess a cow’s strengths and weaknesses. However, the BSCBA Board felt it is time to move in a new direction.
We will continue to seek the right person for Executive Secretary of our breed. We have reviewed and updated the Executive Secretary job description. In the meantime, we have adopted a new organizational plan for the BSCBA employees, a copy of which is enclosed in this mailing.
Make no mistake, the Brown Swiss Cattle Breeders office is open for business. Your Board of Directors has every confidence in the BSCBA staff. Paperwork will be processed, classifications will be performed, and breeder concerns will be addressed.
The BSCBA Board passed twenty-two motions during our Winter Board Meeting. Each motion will be printed in the December Brown Swiss Bulletin. The BSCBA Board will meet via conference call on the first Thursday of each month. Our agenda will be posted on the Brown Swiss website. If you as a breeder have concerns or issues that you want discussed in the board meeting, please contact your District Director or myself.
2018 will be a difficult year for any purebred association operating in a down dairy economy. However, I am confident in BSCBA because of our dedicated staff, our passionate breeders, and our magnificent cow.
Sincerely,
Richard Sparrow
President
