Calves sell Well at Mid Atlantic Brown Swiss Sale
30 calves average $2433
Frederick, MD.—The Mid Atlantic Brown Swiss calf sale celebrated its 41st Anniversary on Saturday April 18 with a beautiful day for consignors and buyers at this great spring sale recently held at the Frederick Fairgrounds, Frederick, MD. The sale saw 30 head of “typey” calves sell for an average of $2433 with calves going to seven different states. It was a great line-up of calves with excellent pedigrees and a show calf to match! 
Topping the sale at $6600 was a very correct, big and stylish fall calf ready to show. Cutting Edge HP B True ET is sired by Bonanza, and out of the famous Dublin Hills Treats 2E-94 with many All American honors through the years. This consignment is backed by a strong maternal line through and through and has a lot of potential. True sold to the Iroquois Acres, the Steve Ouellette family of Bridport, VT, and was the consignment of Ken Main and Peter Vail, Copake, NY. Look for her at the 2015 shows.
There were two animals that tied for second high- sellers at $6000. Lot #2, Top Acres Wonder Streak ET sold for $6000 to William Hughes, Killbuck, OH. Streak is sired by Wonderment, and is out of Old Mill TA Snickers 2E-91, nominated All American Jr. 3-year-old, and then the great Snickerdoodle 5E-94, who is known worldwide. A beautiful fall calf with a great front end, and a stylish cut throughout was the consignment of Wayne Sliker, St Paris, OH. ( Pictured Right)
Also selling for $6000 was a beautiful, well balanced and correct December calf, Dublin Hills Soraya ET sired by the Starsky bull. Her dam is Dublin Hills Sonya 2E-90, and then the great Dublin Hills Sasha 4E-93, who transmits and reproduces the kind that can show! Soraya is the consignment of Nichelle Upton, Woodsboro, MD, and she will make her new home at Amber Ripley McDougan, Avella, PA. (Pictured Left)
Selling as the third high was Lot #14, Blessing Garbro Mort Fawn, a September fall calf sired by Bosephus. Fawn is a long and tall upstanding calf with lots of show potential. Fawn’s dam is Blessing Garbro Mort Fonda E90 with show winnings and high productions with a 6.3% fat test! She is backed by the We-Gotta Jetway Fancy family with All American honors. She sold for $4100 to a new buyer, Todd Hoesley, Monroe, WI, and was the consignment of Blessing Farms, Ft. Wayne, IN.
And selling for $4100 was a tall and long June calf that will be seen on the tanbark trail later this year. This stylish calf, Cutting Edge Tit Riva E is sired Titanium and out of the Nominated All American cow, Nor Bella Jetway River 3E-94, with two EX dams following. Riva was the consignment of Ken Main and Peter Vail, Copake, NY, and will stay in the Mid-Atlantic region making her home at Joy Hess Widerman, Gettysburg, PA.
The fourth high seller was a Pick of Flush. Selling for $4000 was the pick which is due September 1, 2015 sired by Braiden out of the famous Kulp Gen Starbuck Shania 4E-94 was the consignment of Arielle Chard, Woodstown, NJ, and was the purchase of Mackenzie Kovach, Poolesville, MD. The Shania cow family is well known and she was the All American 5-year-old and All American Aged cow, 2005 and 2006.
Rounding out the top five—in fifth high was a big and ready-to-show Spring yearling, La-Mel-Lo Wilbur Keisha. She is sired by Top Acres Garbro Wilbur and out of a VG-87 Grandslam dam. Keisha sold for $3500 and was the consignment of Cassidy Schirmer, Galena, MD, and was bought by Zane Lyons, Spotsylvania, VA.
A very notable March 2015 calf sold for $3350 to Adele Biasini, Morrisville, VT. This very correct and well-made March calf is sired by Chilli Pepper and out of a premier cow family, as the dam is Top Acres Legacy Gypsy E91, and the Grandam is Bo Joy Ensign Gredel 5E-94. There are six maternal sisters to the dam, Gypsy who are EX and several with All American honors. This is a great calf with lots of potential and was the consignment of Lindsey Rucks, Okeechobee, FL.
This sale has gained quite a track record over the years for many that go on to do well for the new owners in the show ring and the milk string. Many achieve All American status, nominated for All American, and Bell Ringer awards. It has been a tradition of Excellent calves and Excellent results which Maryland is very proud of, and for 41 years.
The auctioneer for the sale was Denny Remsburg, while Wayne Sliker read pedigrees. Emmy Heffner, Emmy Covell, Aimee Smith, and others did a great job clerking the sale. Cindy Warner and Dennis Smith continue to be the co-sale managers and thank all the consignors so much for sending good consignments. Jeff Hubbard and a wonderful barn crew of adults and juniors took care of the calves, while Darin Sentelle did the fitting with some assistance. It was a great team effort in the barn and on sale day from the members and families of the Maryland Brown Swiss Association.
