New Brown Swiss Breed Production Champion - SHATZI (M*)

Sun-Made Jetway Shatzi ET (M*) 869338 is the new Brown Swiss Breed Champion for Milk, Fat, and Protein! Calving at 8 years and 2 months, Shatzi (M*) completed her 365-day 2x record with 53,460 pounds milk, 2,766 pounds fat, and 1,903 pounds protein. This equates to a phenomenal 67,003 pounds of Energy Corrected Milk (ECM)!

Shatzi (M*) is owned by Kent M. Thompson of Thompsview Farms, Viroqua, Wisconsin. She was bred by Sunshine Genetics, Whitewater, WI, and purchased as an open heifer in the Sunshine Opportunity Sale in 1998. She is sired by Jetway (M) and her dam is Golden Sun Billy Starbrite ET. Starbrite is a granddaughter of Kilravock Snow Storm, the lead story in the December 2006 Brown Swiss Bulletin issue. Shatzi (M*) was referenced in this article as the "Production Queen" of the Snow Storm family. She is now officially the "Production Queen" of the entire US Brown Swiss breed!

Shatzi (M*) tops the previous champion, Top Acres PR Popsy ET 857020, whose 365d 2x record of 53,430 milk, 2,588 fat, and 1,855 protein stood for 5 years. Popsy was owned by Jerome, Phyllis, and Jason Luttropp and Adrian Zuercher of Berlin, Wisconsin.

Shatzi (M*) is no stranger to the dairy world. During World Dairy Expo in Madison, Wisconsin, in 2005, she was recognized as the 2005 Wisconsin Cow of the Year. Later that year in December, Shatzi (M*) became the 26th Brown Swiss cow to attain the highest classification score of the breed at 94 points for Final Score. She had already completed a 6-5 2x record in 365 days of 48,450 milk, 2,506 fat, and 1,712 protein (60,622 ECM) to place her 6th in milk, 2nd in fat and 3rd in protein on the All-Time Top listings. That record earned Shatzi (M*) the 2004 H. R. Searles award for the high 305d 2X Fat record completed during that calendar year. She has also won Production Awards at the Central National Shows in 2003 (Dry Cow), 2004, & 2005 (Aged Cow), and 2006 (Component Merit). Shatzi (M*) has been recognized as a Superior Brood Cow with Elite status by the national Brown Swiss Association.

Congratulations to the Thompson Family on the New Breed Champion - Shatzi (M*).
